A recent study shows that kids gain weight in the summer. Doug Downey, an Ohio State University sociologist co-authored a study that said, "The lazy days of summer may offer plenty of free time to eat snacks and lounge about watching TV or playing video games, and kids gain weight."
Victoria Johnson, author of 'Body Revival, Lose Weight, Feel Great and Pump Up Your Faith' said, "When I was in high school, I ended up being a cheer leader and getting on the dance team. During the summer, I would go back in the fields, hang out with my folks and gain as much as thirty pounds."
I always thought that we're more physically active and eat less during the summer. And, weight gain is about energy in and energy out! But, many people I know have put on weight this past summer. Shouldn't summer be a good time to lose it? Why not?

For me, If I haven't lost weight by the summer and look good enough for a bathing suit I say to myself"Ah what the heck, enjoy!"
But the consequences are that I look even worse. I still think of food for comfort even though it makes me even more uncomfortable. Does that make any sense to you?
Sure! I still do that. Right now I'm going for treatments for superficial cancer of the bladder. Somehow I feel, "poor me, you're entitled to enjoy and eat." But then I feel worse not better when I gain weight. Thank goodness I caught myself in time after gaining two pounds. I have to talk to myself alot and say "that doesn't help, it just hurts." I think most of us can relate in some way to what you're saying. Lyn
